Valpolcevera Bianchetta 'Bunassa'

2017 Valpolcevera DOC 750ml
95% Bianchetta Genovese, 5% Vermentino
Bianchetta Genovese is a native Ligurian grape variety that produces delicate wines with aromas of flowers and herbs. Valpolcevera wines are extremely rare, especially outside Liguria, as the total production area is less than two hectares.

Valpolcevera is a small valley between the hills surrounding Genoa; Bruzzone’s vineyards amount to less than one hectare across the areas of Coronata, Fegino, Morego, Serra Riccò and Sant'Olcese.

The word "Bunassa” in the Genovese dialect is used to describe a still and calm sea. The label, designed in collaboration with celebrated Genovese artist Francesco Musante, depicts a typical Ligurian sea village with Bruzzone’s legendary Fiat 600 on the quayside.

The grapes are collected in crates and pressing takes place in the vineyard with mobile equipment. The must is then immediately transported to Bruzzone’s cellar in Genoa Bolzaneto and deposited into tanks for cold clarification. Fermentation with solely indigenous yeasts at controlled temperature (16-18°C) for 15 to 20 days. Rests in stainless steel for six months before bottling.

The nose is intense, rich and delicate with fruity characters of ripe apple. The taste is dry with a slight savoury character, lemony acidity and a noticeable salinity on the finish

Match with traditional foods of Liguria: focaccia, farinata (chickpea fritters), torta verde (a pie filled with leafy greens and ricotta), polpettone di fagiolini, pasta alla Genovese (basil pesto)

Andrea Bruzzone's creativity has a foundation in a passion for family, good drinking and good food. In 1991 Andrea founded his Enoteca in Genoa Bolzaneto, where he sells many sought-after bottles, covering not only Italy, but also France and elsewhere; plus a large selection of spirits and liqueurs.

Bruzzone’s Enoteca is also a winery with space dedicated to tanks and casks where the must rests before bottling.

Bruzzone is one of the very few to carry on the tradition of Coronata, where rather than cultivating his own vineyards he relies on 6 farmers situated around Genoa (Fegino and Morego), Serra Riccò and Sant'Olcese to supply the fruit. The vineyards amount to less than one hectare in total, from which Bianchetta, Vermentino, and Coronata grapes (bianchetta, bosco, rollo and vermentino), and ciliegiolo, dolcetto and barbera are cultivated.
