Description
Vernaccia di Oristano is a wine rooted in Sardinian tradition. It is an extremely unique grape variety, flourishing only on the central-western coast of the Sardinian island, and thus a wine that is truly part of the Oristano culture. Vernaccia di Oristano is typically made oxidatively, so as it ages in barrel, it is exposed to oxygen and a layer of "flor" yeast grows as a protective blanket across the top of the wine, imparting complex flavours and aromas. Many modern producers age their Vernaccia in oak barrels, but Silvio Carta uses only the traditional chestnut barrels, meaning their Vernaccia exhibits ultra-concentration of the Vernaccia grape characteristics.
