Mastrojanni - Brunello 'Schiena d'Asino' 2010 750ml

2010 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 750ml

The Mastrojanni estate is very close to Mount Amiata, a volcano which became extinct 700,000 years ago and sits at 1738 metres high. Mt Amiata has a great influence on the estate’s microclimate, determining wind patterns and sheltering the area from violent storms. The vineyards look to the south, south-east, some to the south-west, and each has its own geological characteristic.

Production of the single vineyard Schiena d'Asino Brunello is small at only 5,000 bottles

"Mastrojanni's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Schiena d'Asino is fabulous. Utterly dazzling in richness and overall intensity, the 2010 Schiena is endowed with tons of energy. Sage, rosemary and a host of Mediterranean herbs open up first, followed by graphite, smoke, incense, dark spices and black stone fruits. Feral, intensely mineral notes underpin the fruit and capture the essence of site. This no-holds-barred Brunello remains remarkably light on its feet for such a big wine. Still, the 2010 Schiena is an inward, brooding wine that is going to need at least a few years to show all it has to offer." - Antonio Galloni
