Giovanni Dri

Giovanni Dri_Stefania_John_Vinitaly

Lying on the Friulian border close to Slovenia, the Giovanni Dri winery was established in 1968. Giovanni Dri himself pioneered the modern production of Ramandolo, a golden sweet, fresh wine made from the Verduzzo grape. He has since striven to get the Ramandolo subzone of the Colli Orientali officially recognised. Picolit and Refosco are other local traditional wines made by Dri.

Giovanni Dri was born in the village of Ramandolo at the foot of the Julian Alp ‘Il Roncat’ mountain; an arduous area for manual viticulture labour due to its steep slopes and an area that was often plagued by frost and hail. Giovanni's dream to create traditional, Friulian wines was almost shattered in 1976 when a massive earthquake destroyed the fruits of his labour. His perseverance to succeed was realised in the construction of a new winery in 1990, allowing Giovanni and and his daughter Stefania to be able to bring some of the most unique and rare wines to the rest of the world.
