Bellei Acetaia


The Bellei Family  in the town of Ravarino in the province of Modena, has been involved in the production of balsamic vinegar for five generations. Initially Bellei were responsible for the management and cultivation of vast agricultural holdings belonging to the local nobility. The family started producing Aceto Balsamico, strictly for their own use, towards the end of the 1800s.

Traditionally it was the matriarch of the family who tended to the balsamic barrels, with the skills being handed down to the eldest daughter ensuring the family tradition could continue.

Mariangela Bellei, who learnt the craft from her grandmother, recognized there was a wider market for her family’s artisanal balsamic vinegar and together with her father Mario, turned their skills in a thriving business – Acetaia Bellei.

To produce its range of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP, Bellei only uses cooked grape must, rather than concentrates, resulting in a product that retains the full aroma and flavour of the grape must. The vinegars are then matured in a series of oak barrels, with each stage concentrating the flavours and consistency.
