Andrea da Ponte

At the end of the 19th century, the Da Ponte brothers began producing quality distillates at their home in Veneto. In 1892, Andrea Da Ponte founded the firm in Conegliano, an area now famous for the production of DOCG Prosecco. A few years later, in 1896, his brother Matteo Da Ponte, having perfected the art of distillation, published the first real manual on the topic. The popular text was reprinted four times, in 1901, 1909, 1922 and 1931.

The exclusive “Metodo Da Ponte” was immediately recognised as innovative and modern. It was considered a bible and led to the popularity and appreciation of Da Ponte grappa, with its excellent fragrance and aroma and unprecedented smoothness.

In the 1960s, Pier Liberale Fabris, grandson of Andrea Da Ponte, created a monovarietal grappa from the excellent Prosecco pomace from the hills of Conegliano, and aged the grappa in barriques (from the Allier forrest in France). In the 1980s, Pier Liberale Fabris established a new and modern distillery near the original factory in the heart of Conegliano.

Today, his son Francesco Fabris along with enologist Graziano Freschet, hands down the ancient tradition of the culture and art of distillation, bringing to life the unmistakable flavours of Andrea Da Ponte grappa and distillates.
